The Puck LITE was announced by Velodyne LiDAR at the International LiDAR Mapping Forum 2016, and it was hailed as an evolution of the previous Puck. The only difference between the versions is in weight, as the Puck LITE comes in at 590 g vs. 830 g for the VLP-16 PUCK . It has 360° surround view to capture real-time 3D LiDAR data that includes distance and calibrated reflectivity measurements. For a full list of features, check out the product page.
At the 2016 Commercial UAV Expo, Jeff Wuendry, Marketing Manager at Velodyne Lidar, showed us what it looks like to integrate the Puck LITE onto a UAV. He explains the components of the complete system but also shows us the measurement data that can be captured by this type of device, and explains what kind of difference it can mean when this level of detail is captured.
