How do you expand and scale your drone business? How do you make a business case for investment in uncrewed systems? What are the best ways to address supply chain issues, competition, and standardization?

Eric Brock, Ondas Autonomous Systems

These are some of the many questions that were discussed by industry leaders at a keynote presentation during the recent Commercial UAV Expo – and they are questions that will be explored further during the upcoming Commercial UAV News webinar, “Accelerating Commercial Viability and Market Demand.”

Last month at Commercial UAV Expo, Eric Brock from Ondas Autonomous Systems, Jon Damush of uAvionix Corporation, and Erik Mintz from Mitsubishi Electric came together for a keynote session that took a hard look at the current drone market. The panelists drew on their extensive experience to offer advice to drone professionals on achieving success and stability. Their discussion also touched on a range of issues facing drone companies today, including regulations, brand management, and marketing.

Erik Mintz, Mitsubishi Electric

According to a report on the keynote in Dronelife, the panel “focused on the steps needed for the industry to scale, attract investment, and prepare for the future in a post-regulation environment.” Damush stated that the industry is emerging from a “trough of disillusionment” and is heading toward growth. Mintz compared the drone industry to the personal computer industry from years past and asserted that the uncrewed sector is about to have its “internet moment,” which will lead to market expansion.

Focusing on regulations, a key issue facing all drone industry stakeholders, Brock said that the “regulatory backdrop has gotten stronger,” which will help companies attract capital and scale. Moreover, Brock “stressed the importance of integrating technologies and building infrastructure to support scalability.”

Although the Commercial UAV Expo keynote provided a wealth of insights along with actionable advice, the session only touched on a fraction of the issues surrounding drone industry growth. With this in mind, Commercial UAV News is hosting the webinar “Accelerating Commercial Viability and Market Demand” on Thursday, October 17.

Ken Stewart, NUAIR

For the webinar, Brock, Damush, and Mintz will be joined by NUAIR CEO and President Ken Stewart and moderated by Gretchen West, co-founder and membership director of the Commercial Drone Alliance. Their conversation will focus on the hurdles companies face on their path of economic growth and to commercial viability, which is something that needs to be shifted to the forefront across the drone industry.

“For many years, our conversations have focused around policy and regulations, and rightfully so, but we also need to have the conversations about scaling this industry from a business perspective,” West told Commercial UAV News.

“Companies need to think about what their business will need to look like once we have regulations in place," West said. "Will their products still be relevant? Will the business case for customers change? Will investors be more or less interested in engaging? Our panel will continue our conversation from CUAV in September focusing on the business side of growth in the commercial drone industry.”
