Back in 2016 when Commercial UAV Expo was just starting, Lisa Murray, show director of Commercial UAV Expo, and Lee Corkhill, Marketing Director, saw a need to keep members of the drone industry informed year round, and Commercial UAV News was established as a result. Since then, we have prided ourselves in providing high-quality reporting and analysis on the current events shaping the commercial drone industry from the latest drone technology and services to regulations and policy and more. So much has happened within the industry since we started, and it is always worthwhile to take a moment to look back, especially during times of rapid change like we are experiencing these days.
So, as we embark on the second half of 2020, we thought it would be fitting to take a moment to reflect on what has already happened by revisiting Commercial UAV News’ top posts so far.
These first six months of 2020 have been eventful, for the world and especially the drone industry. We saw the closing out of the commenting period on the FAA’s NPRM on Remote ID; a pandemic that had us redefining how we go about doing basic tasks, which also led to the advent of sanitation and pandemic drones, the push for drone delivery, and a renewed interest in how public safety can use drones to help with Covid-19 efforts, and more; and finally, even as DJI announced their newest drone models, we saw a spike in policies that would affect the industry’s ability to use foreign-made drones, which led to a renewed interest in American-made technology that will no doubt continue to define the rest of 2020 and beyond.
These topics have been (and will probably continue to be) of great concern for our Commercial UAV News readers, and this is evidenced by the list of top articles to date in 2020. These articles had hundreds to even thousands of hits since their debut in 2020 and reflect the key events that have shaped our industry since the turn of the new year.
