Santa Clara, California – September 3, 2024, – ACSL, Inc (ACSL), the leading Japanese drone maker, is pleased to announce a new thermal camera option and the appointment of three advisory board members.

The new stabilized thermal camera features a Boson sensor with a resolution of 640X512. Using a stabilized 3-axis gimbal, the thermal camera has an effective focal length of 13.8mm, 32° HFOV, and captures video at 640X512 @60 Hz. The EO sensor records 64MP photos and 4K video at 30 Hz. It has an effective focal length of 4.8mm and 67° HFOV. This new thermal option is ideal for work in the field with SOTEN’s one-touch swappable camera system. It will work with other ACSL drones and will be available for purchase towards the end of 2024. ACSL will be displaying this new thermal camera at booth #541 during the Commercial UAV Show in Las Vegas from September 3-5.

The new advisory board members include Ron Lopez, President of Astroscale U.S. Inc., Stanley McHann, CTO at Sparkmeter, and Romeo Durscher, a long time drone industry veteran with prior leadership roles at NASA and DJI. These industry experts bring a wealth of experience to ACSL while it grows its clientele list and evolves its product offerings to meet the US market’s UAS needs.

New Advisory Board member Romeo Durscher, who has spent over a decade working with mobile robotics, especially in the Public Safety space, sees great potential in ACSL’s approach to working with the market.

Romeo Durscher: Romeo is a trailblazer in mobile robotics, with over a decade of groundbreaking contributions across the industry. At DJI, he revolutionized the public safety sector by pioneering the integration of small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) into critical missions, setting new standards for their use in life-saving operations. His impact extended to Auterion, where he played a key role in shaping and standardizing the mobile robotics ecosystem. Romeo's deep expertise, rooted in his 13 years at NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory, has been instrumental in advancing the small drone industry. His contributions have helped shape the landscape of mobile robotics, particularly in public safety, disaster response, and the standardization and training of emerging technologies.

Stan McHann: Stan is an expert in SCADA, AMI/AMR, and advanced sensors, holding several patents for control algorithms for power grids. His work has focused on next-generation grid analytics, data-driven models for electric utilities, and imaging technology. He served in the US Air Force, receiving a Commendation Medal and Missile Badge. Before joining Sparkmeter, Stan was a Senior Research Engineer and Chief Pilot at the National Rural Electric Cooperatives Association. He has served as Chief Technology Officer at Milsoft Utility Systems, the Director of Technology at Landis+Gyr, and held senior roles at Dell Technologies and 3Com.

Ron Lopez: Ron joined Astroscale U.S. as its chief executive in 2019, bringing 30+ years of experience working in government and industry. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from The United States Air Force Academy and began his career as an Intelligence Officer in the U.S. Air Force. Afterwards, Ron joined Boeing as a Systems Engineering Manager and led business development in the Asia Pacific region. Prior to Astroscale, he led the Defense Asia Pacific sales team at Honeywell Aerospace. Ron was appointed to the U.S. National Space Council’s Users’ Advisory Group by the Office of the Vice President in 2022.
