We’ve previously detailed how Sony Europe helps drones bring value to construction projects, but at XPONENTIAL Europe 2025, the Sony Europe team was focused on showcasing what it means to bring that value to multiple sectors. Perhaps even more critical is their approach to working with partners and the industry to enable the creation of more complete solutions that drone operators can utilize in ways that are as efficient as they are effective.
On the exhibit floor, the Sony Europe team was showing off the Pixy MR, which is a new lightweight gimbal from Gremsy for the Sony ILX-LR1 on M300/M350 drone platforms. This brand-new gimbal is optimized in size and suited for high-precision mapping projects in multiple sectors. The high resolution, wide dynamic range imagery it can capture enables it to reveal details like small scratches and cracks during inspections that might otherwise go unnoticed.
Sony’s collaboration with Gremsy has also enabled the creation of the Zio, which is a high-resolution zoom payload that combines a Sony sensor with their high-stabilized three-axis gimbal technology. It enables users to zoom into objects of interest and transmit video at 4K resolution. Created to support various inspection, surveying and public safety jobs, the Zio was designed to deliver the control and focus users need, right away.
Those products are connected to an approach to development and collaboration that can be seen with Sony’s Camera Remote Toolkit, which was also a highlight of their presence at the event. This SDK allows users to configure and command multiple cameras while offloading images for processing in ways that work for their specific workflows. All of it underscores how Sony is looking to bring their cameras and sensors to drone operators to more easily make them essential tools that drive growth across the entire drone industry.
“We’re committed to providing alternatives that make sense for this market,” said Michael Pisch from the Sony Europe team. “These integrations provide customers with much more complete solutions and embody the collaborative approach we take with our partners and for the entire drone industry.”
