Altitude Angel, the world’s most trusted UTM (Unified Traffic Management) technology provider, has announced Cambridge City Airport is the latest airport to deploy its Approval Services platform which allows drone operators the ability to request and pay for operations within the airport airspace digitally and at the touch of a button.

Situated close to Cambridge’s historic centre and high-tech business parks, Cambridge City Airport is the aerial gateway to one of the UK’s most famous and thriving cities. The airport is located close to Greater London and is used by general aviation and intercontinental business jets.

And with an FRZ which covers much of the famous university city, the airport is dealing with an increasing number of requests from both commercial and recreational drone operators who wish to operate in the airspace the airport is tasked with managing, which is why Cambridge City Airport has turned to Altitude Angel.

Approval Services allows drone operators to submit flight plans digitally – via the Drone Assist app or via dronesafetymap.com -  which take place wholly or in part, within an airport’s FRZ, quickly and securely, as well as facilitating any charges the airport has in place when a flight is approved.

The benefits of deploying Approval Services at Cambridge City Airport can be seen in the time taken to review the flight requests and administration fees which will both be dramatically reduced - down from 21 days to five for flight reviews, and the administration fees down from £75 or £50, to just £35 for commercial users.

On the deployment of Altitude Angel’s Approval Services platform, David Rowe, Cambridge City Airport, Manager of Airport Operations , said: “ The Airport Operations Team are excited to use the system which will allow us to manage applications efficiently and provide an overview of UAV activity within our FRZ”

Chris Forster, Altitude Angel, Chief Operating Officer, added: “As a busy commercial airport, but one which is also responsible for the airspace above one the UK’s most famous and picturesque cities, we are excited to be able to help enable more drone operations within the Cambridge FRZ, giving all airspace users the opportunity to experience the skies, safely and securely.”
